"We had Amy's father here last Tuesday. He is now the rank of captain (and) he was in the Natal Mounted Police before the war. He was wounded at Gibeon in G.W.Africa. He had two bullets in his thigh. One took 2 3/4 inches (7cm) of bone and the other tore the muscels of his leg. He has been in hospital here and they have fixed him up but one leg is 2 3/4 inch shorter than the other. He is going before a medical board today and he expects to be drafted to Palistine. Amy's stepmother is in Durban but she is coming here next month."*
