bullet  General Notes:

Information handed down by Mavis and Frank Williams in a hand written family tree book indicate that Margaret and Mary Evans were sisters.

My Mother, whose maiden name; was Margaret Evans, was born in Llantrisant, Rhondda Valley, South Wales, on 16 April 1831.#

In the 1841 Wales Survey, Ann Evans, Mary Evans and Margaret Evans the three people we have confirmation in the one family and for which we have birth dates for Mary and Margaret were living in Llanwonno, Glamorgan, Wales with the remainder of the family. Ann Evans name we obtained from the 1871 Wales Survey where Ann Evans was living with her daughter Mary Williams nee Evans and her husband John Williams. She is listed as widdowed and the Mother-in-law to John and was 70 years old.

Mother and the 3 girls came here in the 'Great Australia, in the Indian Ocean the Ship lost her rudder and had to put into Port Elizabeth, South Africa, for repairs, that delayed their arrival here, the voyage taking 147 days, I heard it spoken of as 21 weeks, and as there was neither telegraph or cable and very few mails in those days Father's anxiety, I can remember him mentioning it, can readily be understood. After a separation of 6 years and Mother's lengthy voyage you can imagine the happy reunion. #

Margaret arrived in Australia on 16th September 1858 at Melbourne. Her sister-in-law Ann Morgan, wife of David Morgan, with her three eldest children, Catherine 11 years, Margaret 9 years and Evan 7 years also came out on the same ship.

Margaret had two twin sons in 1868 a David Richard and William Thomas who both died in 1869 aged 6 and 5 weeks respectively and were buried with their grandfather in the Old Ballarat Cemetery section 2DN number 11 ( an unmarked grave).

The Card issued on her death by her husband William Morgan has a poem:

Long nights and days she bore in pain;
To wait for cure was all in vain.
But God alone who thought it best,
Did did ease her pain and give her rest.

The card also has
In Loving Memory of Margaret Morgan, The beloved wife of William Morgan who departed this life October 15th 1889 aged 58 years and 6 months. (This gives her date of death and approximate date of birth as April 1831)
Interred in the Williamstown Cemetry C of E Sec N8 Grave 5 Burial 5138.
H. Lonsdale and Son Undertakers, Furguson Street, Williamstown.

Mother passed away in 1889 only 58 1/2 years of age, a wonderful wife and mother, although I have lived longer than Mother was spared to us, years make no difference for she is still Mother and I cherish her loving memory. #

William Morgan (her son) Death records Reg No 12673 show Margaret Evans as his mother.
