In 1871 Wales Census he and the family was living at No7 Club Row in the Hamlet of Middle in Ystradyfodwg in Glamorgan. John was an Engine Driver. There was a boarder named William Evans who may have been a relative to his wife Mary Evans as they were both born at Llantrisant, Glamorgan, Wales. Mary Evans' mother Ann Evans who was 70 years old and widowed was at the same address either living or visiting. She was also born at Llantrisant, Glamorgan.
In 1907 he was living at 12 Dunraven Terrace, Treorchy, South Wales and had his married son Gwilym staying with him.
John died on 3 Jul 1913 in Vaynor House, Edwardsville, Treharris and was formally a Colliery Winding Engineman (above ground). This information is from his death certificate and from the Cemetry Internment. He was buried on 7 July 1913 at 4.30 pm by the Rev L Lissington. The person giving the information for the death certeficate was B Williams who was present at the death and for his Internment was Jonas Lewis presumably a relative to John's mother-in-law, Ann Evans (nee Lewis).
