General Notes:
Amy Hawkins lived at No 1 Oroton Terrace, Hackney. Amy apparently had an argument with her two sisters in England when she was about 18 years old and she decided to come to Australia. Hawkins, Amy arrived in Hobart on the ship Oriental on 25 Jul 1857 at an Age of 20 (Tasmanian Archives, Reference CB7/12/1/7 p300). She worked as a cook assistant and apparently used to throw out all the old mouldy meat, much to her boss' distress. While working at Oakland, she met William Calway(Jones) who was still serving out his time as a convict working in the garden. They became friendly and married once he was a free man.
One of her sisters married a Kilgour - the family have photos but cannot identify any. Josie MacDonald (nee Calway) has these photos. Amy was also related to Richard Bushell b 1846
