Phil Richards, as FBW always called him, married May in Boksburg, South Africa after her first husband died. He was a guard with the South African railways and in late 1918 was living at 17 First Ave Durban South Africa. May died in Oct 1918 in the Boksburg Hospital with Phil present at the Death. He had red hair and a red moustache.

This document gives Phillip Gentle Richards as her husband and they were married in Boksburg, Trannsvaal. At the time of her death she had a small quantity of furniture and the estate was valued at less than 300 pound. She had made a will on 18 March 1918 indicating her her son Frank was to reside in Boksburg with his mother's parents.
Phillip Gentle Richards, with Gwilym, Mary and Frank, left Cape Town on 22 January 1919 on the ship the War Pike registered in London Tonnage 3187 and engine horsepower 517. Phil was working on the ship which arrived in Melbourne on 22 February 1919 .
Phil re-married in 1919 in Victoria and there are no further records of him in Vic. His wife died in 1947.
