William (Billy the Bull) WOODS

   Another name for William was William WOODS.

  General Notes:

On his birth certificate No 9246 1889 in Ballarat East, Vic His father was James Woods miner aged 23 years and married on 22 Dec 1887 to his mother Annie Woods (Maiden Surname Scott) 22 years old. Of course Ann Wood was not married. He was the first to be registered as a Woods at birth. Ethel May his elder sister was registered as Wood at birth.

William (Billy the Bull) Woods born 1889 lived in the two roomed miners cottage at 20 (now 420) Sherrard St, Black Hill, Ballarat and was always well dressed in a suit and waist coat and shiney big black lace-up boots and sat in his rocking chair when we visited. He had jars of gold dust from panning and prospecting for gold in the area which he would show his nephews when they visited. We had to leave the room while he took the jars from their hiding place.
He was a fussy person and would always be cleaning up any crumbs which may have been dropped. Niel Ross recalls that if he went for a cuppa with Bill he would be cleaning up any crumbs while he was still there.

Death Reg No 24570 1959 Indicates he died in Ballarat at the age of 70 and his mother was Annie Brown and his father William. Buried in the new Ballarat Cemetery.
