bullet  General Notes:

Les Birth Certificate has his father as George Woods miner 32 yrs old and Annie Woods (Maiden Name is hard to read but appears to be Scott) as his mother. He was the second sibling to be registered as a Woods at birth. Ethel May the first born was registered as Wood at birth. As we now know, Annie was not married at the time.

Florence and leslie brought forward their wedding plans because it was a wet autumn and Les was wet continuallyas he was a wood merchant. he had a hourse and cart with no cover. Flo would then be home with a fire going to dry out his clothing each day. For this reason the house was not ready so they lived with Leslie's brothers in the Cottage in Sheppard St around the corner.During this time, jack nearly burnt the house down.

Les had an old house transported to the block in Chisholm St. After they moved in they only had a tea chests for a table and chairs. Les would also chop some wood for the elderly after his deliveries as a public service. One family owed money for wood and Les called regularly to collect the money, but no one would answer the door even though he knew they were watching behind the curtain. In the yard was a good axe so Les, knowing they would never pay and knowing they were watching behind the curtain, picked up the axe and walked out with it. They could not do anything as they had pretended not to be home. Small recompense for what was owing.

Les was in hospital initally being trated for intergestion but it turned out to be appendicitis and it burst. He sent for his children and Rose remembers him telling her to be a good girl for her Mum.
