The only Arthur Kelly Birth registered in Tasmania in the 1800's was Arthur Kelly 15 Nov 1886 - KELLY ARTHUR Birth Male Father WILLIAM Mother MCGEE BRIDGET born at EMU BAY 15-Nov 1886 1886 1370 33 but this is not him.

Hilda and May were recorded as sisters by HC Millington at Arthur William Kelly's Death in 1965. The only Hilda Kelly was born in Tasmania was on 14 May 1891 to George William Kelly and Eliza Moore in Hobart. There are two May's one a Mary May Kelly born to the same parents above. It is possible that Arthur William Kelly also had the same parents. The other May was born 17 Oct 1889. George William Kelly and Eliza Moore were married on 31 Dec 1981 in Hobart 702/1981 RGD 37. George William Kelly was born 24 July 1859 with Father John and Mother Caroline Wallington in Hobart 2702/1859 RGD 33. This couple had 8 children.

In 1907 Arthur's first child was born at Patrick St Hobart. In 1908 to 1910, his children were born at 29 Ware St Hobart. In March to November 1915, his three still born children were delivered at 247 Argyle St North Hobart. In 1917 to 1919, his children were born at 178 Campbell Street Hobart.

Arthur worked at the Jones-IXL Jam factory near the wharf for many years. He organised a large number of jam labels to make a dress for the grandchildren's school fancy dress.

Arthur had a curl in the front of his hair and he would curl it with a hot poker. He also played the pianoaccordian and was often the life of the party. The grandchildren remenber "Oh! Them Golden Slippers" as one of his common songs. Arthur also liked the ladies.

Arthur William Kelly died 31 July 1965 and was buried in Cornelian Bay Cemetry Record ID 51755 in the Church of England Section GG 297 on 3 Aug 1965 with his wife. He was aged 83 according to the records and the last place of residence was a home, St John's Park, New Town Tas 7008. His next of kin was Mr A Kelly. If the information on his death record is correct he was born 1881 or 2 and could not have been born in 1886.

By calculating his sister's pregnancy from January 1882 and considering the marriage date of 31 December 1881, we realise he was born in 1881 when his parents were not married. There was an Arthur born to Eliza Moore on 30 May 1881 at her grandmother's place in Harrington St. with father not registered. From the DNA of his grandson Robert which has matches with Kelly descendants from John Kelly and Caroline Waddington we can conclude that his father was George William Kelly. This would make him 84 at death not 83. It could be that his parents had fudged his birth date. His grand children in Hobart said there was something funny about his birthday, They also indicated that he had two sisters Hilda and May.

Arthur married Hope Angela Victoria LOCKLEY, daughter of Robert LOCKLEY and Catherine HINGLEY, on 21 Dec 1904 in Holy Trinity Church, Hobart, Tas. (Hope Angela Victoria LOCKLEY was born on 5 Dec 1882 in Pt Cygnet, Tas, died on 8 Jun 1936 in Public Hospital, Hobart, Tas and was buried on 10 Jun 1936 in Cornelian Bay Cemetery, Hobart, Tas.)
