bullet  General Notes:

Ann Wood birth Certificate indicates she was born 5 November 1868 illegitimate with her mother Elizabeth Wood who was 26 and born at Newcastle on Tyne, England. She also signed Elizabeth Wood. Ballarat Reg No 21376 1868. Ann later called herself Annie Woods which was on her wedding certificate to William Taylor but on George birth certificate she called herself Annie Bibby.

The property known as the corner of Chisholm and Sherrard Streets was ultimately owned by the current Woods families who still live in Ballarat, but this was not until well into the 20th Century. We do not have a clear picture at this stage of the Wood/Woods accommodation in the early years - between 1854 & 1900. But it would seem that the family obtained the property under Miners' Rites or Lease. Records available seem to indicate this. (We do not know if Thomas Wood who arrived in 1854 used his skills as a Carpenter or whether he became a Miner)

What we do know is that according to the present families that there was a 'Shed' type accommodation in the property deep on the block and we also know that 'George Wood' (brother of Annie, lived on the property in 1882 thru to 1900 - as his name appears on all the Electoral Roll records during that time, showing his address as Chisholm Street & sometimes shows as Sherrard Street.

We also know that when Annie Taylor died in 1923 Ballarat D.C. No 4129 at the House at 20 Sherrard St and it was owned by Annie and her Estate shared among the family.

When Les and Jack were married, the bachelor son William (Billy) remained in the family house until he died.

When Annie died Jack Woods her son destroyed all the family information and photographs because of his illegitimate status
